The Great Grey Fleet Debate

11th June 2013 - 11th June 2013

Fancy joining James Backhouse for the debate?

For the first time Fleet News are hosting the Great Grey Fleet Debate to provide some much-needed clarity on the grey fleet issue.

The debate, which will be held at Company Car in Action, will offer fleet operators the opportunity to listen to a panel of experts speak on one of the hottest issues in fleet at this time.

Involving spokespeople from the three finalists in the Fleet News Awards 2013 Grey Fleet of the Year category, the debate will take place at 2.15pm on Tuesday 11 June and last for 90 minutes. The debate is open to all CCIA attendees.

Specialists signed up to grapple with the grey fleet topic are:

  • Fleet News Awards finalists Tristan Campbell, fleet adviser at Chivas Brothers

  • Adam Davies, fleet team leader at Wiltshire Council

  • Gareth Roberts, fleet manager at Natural Resources Wales

They will be joined by legal expert James Backhouse, of Backhouse Jones Solicitors, and a view from the fleet industry.

Fleet News editor Stephen Briers commented 'Grey fleet drivers are a relatively new phenomenon for fleet managers as more become responsible for managing those drivers who use their own vehicles to undertake company business. It places employers literally in a grey area, and many companies are simply turning a blind eye; either due to uncertainty of their responsibilities or because they are unwilling to encroach on what they consider to be the privacy of individuals. However, it really is a topic that fleet managers need to tackle with a robust policy to protect themselves, their employees and other road users.'

Fleet News aims to throw more light on the subject as well as highlighting ways in which the area can be tackled, whatever the number of private vehicles your company may utilise.
