12 day rule

The European Parliament and Council have agreed the “road transport package”, which includes a (very) partial restoration of the old 12 day rule for coach drivers.

The dispensation will apply only for individual international journeys and there are various additional stipulations to be followed. The restoration of the 12 day rule does, however, provide concrete recognition that the detailed needs of coach operators and passengers are not the same as those of hauliers and their goods.

We are awaiting the final text from the European Parliament, but it appears that the dispensation will be available to operators six months after the package's appearance in the Official Journal of the EU.
