Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
Thursday 21st May 2009This is designed to prevent braking distances becoming dangerously small.
When a vehicle closes in, cruising speed is cut automatically to maintain a safe braking distance. When the vehicle in front speeds up, ACC reacts and allows speed to pick up. ACC can brake and cut engine power. It is advised not to use ACC in wet road conditions.
The cost on a new truck is approximately £2000. The Mercedes ACC "telligent proximity control" is £3350.
