Back on Track!

Tuesday 23rd June 2009

Last year saw one of the Backhouse Jones team, Mark Davies, rekindle his love of karting.

Mark often recounts his experience of racing in the 13 - 18 Junior categories, and competing with the likes of Lewis Hamilton and many others - who are now better known as motorsport professionals.

He began racing again last August, on a Rotax 125cc kart (fixed gear) that is capable of 90 miles per hour. Mark regularly competes in the club championships at Hooton Park (Ellesmere Port) on the second weekend of the month, PF International (Lincolnshire) on the first weekend of the month and Three Sisters (Wigan) on the final weekend of the month. At the moment Mark is leading the championship at Hooton Park although it is very close between the top three!

When Jonathon Backhouse heard of Mark's out-of-hours interest he was keen to try his hand, as he felt he had a great deal of experience racing the regular karts, (the kind that you find available at a corporate race day); telling Mark he had always been about the quickest on the day.

Mark soon agreed to take Jonathon along to his next test session - and it wasn't too long before Jonathon (dressed in the RED suit) became aware of how different a racing kart is to the corporate karts that he had been on before. He was very impressed by the speed and levels of grip produced by the tyres although there were a couple of spins!

We'll keep you posted on how Mark progresses through the season.
