Driver CPC: goes live for truck drivers
Wednesday 9th September 2009Members are reminded that from Thursday (10 September) new large goods vehicle drivers are required to obtain an initial Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) and that the first five-year period for periodic training begins for existing drivers.
Members should ensure that they have systems in place to check dates of licence acquisition of new recruits and are also aware that holders of the initial qualification are legally obliged to carry their driver qualification card with them when they drive an in-scope vehicle. It may also be an opportune time to check the terms of your Road Traffic Act insurance because of the reduction in the minimum age of large goods vehicle drivers to 18 years, provided they also have a DCPC.
