February winter snow: 'lessons learnt' review announced

Tuesday 17th March 2009

In late February, the House of Commons Transport Committee announced that it was undertaking a short review into the effectiveness of the infrastructure authorities in dealing with the heavy snow which affected much of the UK during February. Secretary of State,

Geoff Hoon has now announced an Government review under the auspices of the UK Roads Liaison Group (UKRLG) - a partnership of Central Government, devolved administrations, trunk road authorities and local authorities - to review the lessons that can be learnt from recent events and to recommend what steps could be adopted by local highway authorities, trunk road authorities, producers of salt and other stakeholders. Whilst the study will focus on the effective treatment of England's road networks, the advice of UKRLG may well have implications for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
