Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness: VOSA consults on revisions
Monday 11th January 2010VOSA is currently consulting on plans to introduce a revised Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness in 2010.
The purpose of the revisions is to ensure that the guide is updated in line with modern vehicle technology and solutions.
The Guide is robust and fit for purpose and Vehicle Operators are informed that VOSA has listened to the views of the trade associations in preparing the best practice document.
The current Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness has been available since about 1991 and provides a framework within which operators can organise their vehicle maintenance and retain the flexibility for varying the intensity of the maintenance system to suit the severity of specific operating conditions. The Guide is supported by the Traffic Commissioners and has been produced in consultation with FTA and other transport industry bodies.
key concern is the proposed addition of the comment 'That any defects have been repaired satisfactorily and the vehicle is now in a safe roadworthy condition' and the expense of incorporating this new form of words into sample inspection reports if reports currently in use which contain the current guide comment are deemed out of date and non-compliant.
The consultation documents can be downloaded here.
The closing date for the consultation is 19 March 2010, members wishing to comment on the draft are invited to do so by email to Andy Mair at amair@fta.co.uk
