Mirror retrofit: clarification on requirements
Tuesday 24th February 2009European legislation requires goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes first registered from 1 January 2000 to meet wide angle (class IV mirror) and close proximity (class V mirror) field of vision requirements by 31 March 2009.
From 1 April 2009, vehicle presenters and operators will need to complete a self-declaration certificate for presentation at the annual test. A copy of the self-declaration certificate can be downloaded here
FTA's guide to the new requirements can be downloaded here
FTA's Member Advice Centre has received several calls asking if the changes apply to a class VI mirror which covers the area immediately in front of the vehicle. However these mirrors are only required on vehicles registered after January 2007 and are not included in the retrofit requirements.
