VOSA test stations: closures announced

Wednesday 28th January 2009

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has announced the closure of three test stations at Bredbury (Stockport), Steeton and Par (St Austell). The stations will close in summer 2008.

The station closures follow the decision late last year to close 10 test lanes across the country as a first step in reducing overcapacity in the testing estate.

VOSA plans to progressively transfer hgv testing away from its own premises to the private sector over the next three years.  This process it will include refreshing the current Designated Premises network and the creation of Authorised Testing Facilities (ATF) run by private companies, such as operators and maintenance providers. VOSA staff will continue to provide independent, regulated tests for the ATFs.
