Wednesday 4th November 2009FTA and the Institute of Road Transport Engineers have published a new guide aimed at reducing the incidences of wheel loss from heavy commercial vehicles.
The Transport Research Laboratory estimates that in 2006 there were between 150 and 400 occasions when wheel loss occurred from commercial vehicles. This new guide is aimed at operators, maintenance staff and drivers and highlights tell-tale signs associated with poorly secured vehicles and industry best practice linked on wheel maintenance policies and procedures.
The guide has been jointly sponsored by waste management operator Sita UK and tyre management company ATS Euromaster. Both have also been involved in the formulation of the guides best practice advice.
A copy of the guide is being circulated to members via November Freight. Additional copies are available from Shopfta (price £3) at www.shop.fta.co.uk tel: 08717 11 11 11.
