The Government’s Verify identity assurance system is estimated to go live on Vehicle Operator Licensing by the end of this week. This new service will allow businesses to apply for and manage vehicle operator licences online, making for a completely paperless application process.
Managing your licence online is an important part of the service, allowing you to:
- apply to increase your vehicle limit;
- apply to add a transport manager to your licence; and
- add more vehicles to your licence.
Additionally, it is the first time Verify will be used to confirm identity for the purpose of making legal declarations; in this instance, the undertakings and transport manager declaration.
The ‘print and sign’ option will remain available for some time, and whilst operators do not have to use the online system at all, the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC) is aiming to phase out paper transactions by 2019.
Any directors and transport managers wishing to use Verify will first need to register with the system and most likely provide some financial background information. For instance, if you confirm that you hold a bank account at a particular bank, you may be asked ‘in what year you took out a loan/mortgage’.
The OTC has also indicated that in the next few weeks, the facility to perform digital licence continuations is expected to go live. The Traffic Commissioners have an aspiration in their Strategic Objectives that all operator licensing functions should be available digitally by April 2019.
