On 23 March 2020, the DVSA announced the suspension of all vehicle approval tests for up to 3 months in response to the coronavirus outbreak. A further announcement on 22 April 2020 has now confirmed that a limited number of Individual Vehicle Approval tests (IVAs) will take place under a priority system but that Certificate of Initial Fitness (COIF) tests are suspended until 22 June 2020.
You can apply for a priority IVA test before 22 June 2020 using the application form which can be found here.
As only a limited number of tests are being carried out, you may not get an appointment for a test or your appointment may be changed if a higher priority vehicle needs to be tested.
When you apply, you need to say which of the 6 eligibility categories your vehicle falls into and, if your vehicle is being used to support the COVID-19 response, you will also need to provide proof (such as a statement from the vehicle operator saying what the vehicle will be used for) with your application.
More information, including details of how to apply for a priority IVA inspection, can be found here.
