Having spent many years practising in Manchester as a litigation Partner at a national law firm, a friendship with the Backhouse twin brothers and Ian’s overwhelming interest in all things transport related resulted in the formation of Backhouse Jones in January 2000.
Much of Ian’s role today involves using his transport specialism whilst speaking at public events on behalf of the firm and relationship building with clients.
More recently, Ian has turned his legal curiosity from court room questioning to a gentler form of inquisition to find the BACK story of fascinating individuals involved in the transport sector. His aim is to recreate the golden days of Michael Parkinson style interviewing. Ian’s lively mix of transport with a side order of law and humour make his podcasts ‘a must listen’ for anyone interested in the human side of the transport sector. In the odd moment when Ian is not working, he either reads biographies for his own enjoyment or books involving princesses to his two daughters.
